Changes made from my draft to my final magazine/ Market research..

A lot of changes were made from the development of my draft into my final magazine. From the feedback I got back, I knew a lot could be improved on. The key changes were the colour scheme, images, layout techniques and skills I used with the software, fonts and the positioning of the features. The magazines are both very different and I think the advice I got and changes I made, made a massive improvement. By looking at magazines that I liked and related to, helped me because I understood how to lay out the features to make it look more like a real magazine. The colour scheme is a lot more effective and is consistent throughout each page. The red, blue, white and black works well together and complements the font and images. I think the magazine flows well together in my final magazine because the colour scheme makes each page very similar and it is clear that it is an 'AMPLIFY' magazine. The style masthead has also improved from my draft version because it did lack impact and needed to be bolder. For my final version I used a simple font but it was a lot bolder and suited the layout and theme of my music genre and image. This related to other conventional magazines as they use simple fonts as well so that the focus is just on the main image. I improved the article because the answers and questions could be improved. It is now more enjoyable to read and relates to other magazines I researched such as Classic Rock and Kerrang. The main improvement that needed to be made to my article is that it needed to be longer and more relevant to my music genre. I did this by researching more Rock artists and looking at style questions from other magazines. My draft version lacked impact to the reader because it was very flat and basic. The layout needed improving along with skills with Photoshop which could improve the quality. My final magazine has a bigger impact because all pages work well together. This is down to the consistent colour scheme, improvement of image choice and the layout. To make my magazine have more impact I would maybe look at more magazines to gain more ideas and inspiration to make my magazine more realistic. The three main changes that I made to my draft was layout, the colour scheme and the images. I also changed the artist on my double page spread but kept the same name. My final magazine is more effective because I looked at style models and fonts to see how the other features could be improved.

Plan of action for necessary improvements..

After getting feedback from teachers and self assessing my draft version, I am now aware of what changes need to be made and how it will improve my final magazine. I need to improve the layout, change the images, delete the logo and experiment with other fonts. To do this I will look at magazines I get inspiration from such as Classic Rock, Kerrang and Q and develop ideas from their front covers, contents and double page spreads.

Evaluating My Draft Magazine (Self Assessment)..

After producing my draft front cover, I new a lot of things could be changed and improved. Firstly my masthead was very weak and needed to be more relevant to the genre of my magazine. The colours didn't work well together and the font was poor. It needed to be bolder because it doesn't have a big enough impact. The colour scheme also needs changing because the colours contrast too much and are not realistic because they are not commonly used in other conventional magazines. The features need to be more definite and bolder and I don't like the logo and where it is positioned. I may not have a logo on my final magazine because it takes away the focus from other features. I will also change the image because I am having a different artist for my double page spread.

I will also change the image on this page as well. I don't like the use of the drumsticks because they are unrealistic and uncommon in other magazines. The layout is also very weak so I will look at style models from other magazines I get inspiration from. I also need to change the images because I don't think they are positioned correctly on the page. The cutting out could be better and boxes would work better.
For the double page spread I need to make my interview longer. I need to cut down my first paragragh and improve the answers and questions. The layout is better on these pages although improvements can still be made. The images will also need to be changed as I am changing the artist and the cutting out must also be improved. The pages also lack impact so images must be experimented with. I will also use more colour and look at style models for more ideas.

Research and Planning - Other examples of double page spreads..

These double page spreads were all in the 'Classic Rock' magazines that I bought. I like the layout of these and I also like the idea of having one image taking up one whole page. This relates to my magazine and music genre well so I used these for inspiration on my style models, layout, font types and other features to make my magazine look more realistic.

Research and Planning - Other examples of front covers..

For extra research I bought a 'Classic Rock' magazine which I found very useful for the style models and layouts. I used these for inspiration and ideas. These covers are quite basic and don't have a lot of cover lines but I like how the main focus is the image itself. The layering effect also works well.
