7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Since my preliminary task, I feel that my skills with using the software have increased dramatically. When I first started using photoshop, I was limited on what I could produce because I didn't have a lot of skills with using the software. But with practice and experimenting with it, my skills have got better and better. An example would be that I know how to layer the conventions more now then I did and my skills in cutting out the photos using the magnetic 'lasso' tool have improved. I also learnt how to use the magic wand tool which was handful for separating the border of an image from the image itself so it saves you from cutting it out. An example of this is the photo of my artist with the guitar. I used this tool to drag the white background from the outline of her so that I didn't have to cut around her. I have learnt how to edit images using the different filters and how experimenting with layout makes the magazine look more professional and 'real'. But using a more effective use of the layers, my magazine looked more appealing as a whole. I also feel a strong improvement in my creativity skills. My progress with experimenting with layout and taking test shots have considerably improved since my preliminary task. I thought more about setting and where to locate my conventions in my magazine so it related more to other conventional magazines. I also think that my research and planning was very successful as it was a good starting point for researching different magazines and generating ideas for my own magazine. It helped me understand how magazines are distributed and what features make a magazine so successful.
Overall my understanding of photoshop has developed overtime and I believe my magazine has improved incredibly since my preliminary task. The layout, images, font and colour scheme is far more effective and this has been helped through my improvements in using the different technologies. My final magazine looks a lot more professional and this is because I have understood photoshop more through experimenting with particular tools.
