Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Billboard.
This Billboard is one of my favourite that I found. I think it stands out from others because of the variety of colours used and the layout is also very different. The large white heading is very direct which readers instantly look at because it is in the centre of the page. the red background emphasises the image of Kesha in the centre of the page. By having this image continues the music theme as she is recognised by her fans and other readers. The 'splash' effect is also eye-catching and is not common on other magazines.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Billboard.
This Billboard cover is very simple but works very well because the image is very unique and eye-catching. The black and white is very effective as it highlights the vibrant colours of the masthead. The masthead works well as it stands out from the rest of the cover and the position at the top of the page makes it the main focus. This cover has no cover lines which also makes it different from others and may appeal to readers because it looks more interesting.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas FHM.
This FHM magazine cover appeals to both male and female readers because girls admire Pixie Lott and boys like the way she looks. Her seductive stance makes the image very eye-catching and the position of it in the centre of the page makes it stand out even more. The colour palette also works well and the layering of the text underneath and surrounding the image makes the reader focus on different areas of the magazine. The image of the speaker that is used as a background is very effective as it continues the music theme and makes it clear that it is a music magazine because of the equipment.

Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Radio Times.
The Radio Times magazine covers are always vary eye-catching. This was an award winning cover. I like how they use a simple colour palette and the image takes up the majority of the page. The masthead is clearly positioned at the top of the page which appeals to the reader because it is easy to find and the large text of the heading and cover lines also works well as they stand out on top of the main image. The black and white image is effective as it highlights the red text 'Bob Geldof' as he is the main feature of the magazine.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Sugar.
This Sugar magazine cover is quite complex as it has a lot of features layered on top of one another. The picture of Pixie works well to highlight the music genre and the simple colour palette emphasises the text and main image. I like the positioning of the text and how the advert layers on top of these features to add extra information to the cover. The cover lines are also appealing to the reader as they inform the reader on what to expect inside the magazine.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Texas Monthly.
This Texas Monthly magazine is very basic. By having only the masthead and the main image makes it very unique and different from other magazines. I like how the black and white image emphasises the vibrant red masthead. The layering of these two features also works well to make it look more professional. The image is quite emotive and the colour palette is also very simple which makes the cover more eye-catching.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Rolling Stone.
This main image works well on the cover of a rock magazine as it expresses the music genre well. The flames add an extra effect and looks effective because it gives the reader something else to look at. The text located on the left hand side is appealing to the reader because it is in a place where it doesn't distract them from looking at the image itself. I also like how the masthead is layered behind the image as it shows that they have experiments with layout.

Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Guitarist.
I like this cover because it is very simple and basic. The drawing works well with the 'graffiti' text. The colour palette is quite dull and may only appeal to men. The text located on the image itself appeals to the reader because it makes them focus on that area. The masthead is quite large and the black font makes it stand out even more from the grey background. the brick wall effect also works well because it is quite different.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Interview.
This is my favourite cover that I found producing my research. It is very different to other magazines and the wide range of colours that are used make it very effective. The large over the shoulder shot emphasises that the magazine features Rihanna and the masthead works well layered on top of the image because of the plain white text. The flowers make it quite feminine although the image appeals to men as well because it is quite seductive. The text in the centre of the cover stands out because it is black and is in a place where readers can instantly see.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas NME.
This NME magazine is also very different to others and this is because of the colour palette and change of layout. The image and use of bad language changes the genre of music but this is clear because of the black and white image and vibrant red heading and masthead. This works well as it makes the cover more simplistic and I also like how the text is separated from the main image as it looks more professional and easier to read. The layering of the heading also works well because it makes you focus on the image.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas NME.
This cover is very unique and different form other NME magazines. I like how the background is filled with words, personal to Jimi Hendrix himself. The large image and wide variety of colours make the colour very eye-catching as a whole. The masthead also stands out and complements the colour scheme. the large size of this feature appeals to the reader as they can easily recognise that it is an NME magazine.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas NME.
I like this cover because it is very different to others because of the colour palette used. NME have changed the colour scheme to create an interesting change and readers will find this more eye-catching. The blue background emphasises the importance of the close-up image which work well together. The large font size is also effective and the red hair clashes with the background which makes the reader focus on the main image.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Q.
I think think cover works well as the image creates a positive vibe because the band look happy. The size of the image is also effective because it is very eye-catching and different. The heading also stands out because of the black text on a white background, but the size also takes the focus once again to another area. The Q masthead/logo shows consistency as regular buyers know that it is Q magazine and the colour palette is also the same throughout these magazines which also makes it clear to the readers. The barcode is used which relates to other conventional magazines as they have the same features.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas Rolling Stone.
This cover is very effective and appeals to a wider variety of audiences. The contrast in genre shows a new, exciting change to the magazine. The image is very bright and colourful and the size makes it even more appealing to the reader. The short, snappy cover line is very direct and the layered masthead also works well.
Research and Planning - Developing Ideas NME.
Here is an NME front cover. I like the close up image here as it is very eyecatching for the reader. The simple colour palette is also very effective even though it is so simple. The layout is also quite basic but the text works well as it fills in the gaps surrounding the image. The masthead is very bold which stands out to the reader and the image and text shows clearly that it is a music magazine.
